Find God In The Storm

 

I recently struggled to cling to God amid a hurricane. I found myself on the floor of my hallway, in the dark with no electricity, hearing microbursts ripping my neighbor's roofs off their houses and trees crashing into the homes next to me. I was trying my best to turn to God. To trust as we are invited. I couldn't. My body felt like iron; I was shaking uncontrollably, my muscles and mind unable to let go and feel the presence of God that I am so used to quickly accessing. The storm bands lasted four hours. I thought it was never going to end. I feel like the storm carried my faith away with it. It took me till mid-day the next day to feel the presence and peace God provides return.  

I have a renewed compassion for people stuck in natural disasters and or chronic anxiety. I dedicate this next week of practice to all those who suffer these traumatic events. I hope these classes help us all to condition an unshakeable connection to God's living peace, no matter what storm we face.
